Types of FastS

Here are some examples of various types of biblical fasts.

We always encourage you to consult your doctor, especially if you have health issues or have never fasted.

Deciding How Long: You may fast as long as you like.

Most people can easily fast from one to three days, but you may feel the grace to go longer,

even as much as 21 to 40 days. Use wisdom and pray for guidance.

How to Begin Spiritually: Start with a clear goal. Be specific.

Pray often daily and read the Bible. Ask the Holy Spirit for guidance.

  • Why are you fasting?
  • Do you need direction, healing, or restoration of marriage or family issues?
  • Are you facing financial difficulties?

  • Full Fast

Drink only liquids like water, juice, and clear broth (you establish the number of days).

This fast can be done for all 21 Days or in 3-7 day increments.

  • Partial Fast (Time-Based)

Fast from food (or specific foods) during certain hours, like 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., or sunup to sundown, while consuming liquids.

This can be done for the full 21 days or in 3-7 day increments.

  • Daniel Fast (Partial Fast)

Eat no meat, no sweets and no bread. Drink water and juice. Eat fruits and vegetables. (Usually 21 days)

The Daniel Fast is a biblically based partial fast. It is a method of fasting that men, women and young people all over the world are using as they enter into the spiritual discipline of prayer and fasting.
